Basil wants Parliament to Reconvene next week

Member for Bulolo and Deputy Leader of PNG Party Sam Basil says parliament should re-convene next week Friday and not this Friday as scheduled.

He is urging the Governor General and Electoral Commissioner to respect the remaining electorates yet to make declarations.

Speaking by phone from Kokopo, Mr. Basil called on newly elect MPs to align themselves with PNG Party and its coalition partners to form the next government.

Meanwhile, Incumbent Prime Minister and PNC Party leader Peter O’Neill in response to Sam Basil’s comments said Section 81 (3) of the Organic Law on National and Local Level Government elections allows the Electoral Commissioner to receive the writs of the undeclared seats later than the date set for the return of writ.

He therefore says this is the Electoral Commissioner’s call and claims that he had pushed or pressured the commissioner is outrageous and wrong.
