Bulolo MP and Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Basil has officially announced his defection from PNG Party to Pangu Pati.
Pangu Pati National General Secretary, Morris Tovebae, said all formal procedures and due processes were followed for the release of Mr Basil to Pangu Pati.
Before handing over Pangu Pati's formal documents to Mr Basil, Pangu’s General Secretary Morris Tovebae said the move was not politicized, but the work of good understanding and cooperation between the leader of PNG Party and Opposition leader Belden Namah, Pangu Party and Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
An outspoken Mr Basil told the media that all processes of his switch to Pangu Pati leader were followed in accordance by OLIPPAC. Basil said he is ready to uphold Pangu’s constitutions and policies and place it in PNG’s political landscape.
“I will remain in opposition and keep the government accountable,” said Mr Basil.
Meanwhile, Registrar of Political Parties, Dr Alphonse Gelu, confirmed the necessary procedures followed by Mr Basil in switching parties and says it’s timely for the Party to have a vibrant leader in the lead up to the 2017 national elections.
A ceremony was held at the Office of the Registry of Political Parties today to signify Mr Basil’s move.
