Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, says that lack of discipline has crippled the organization over the years.
While underlying issues remain, Commissioner Baki says more efforts will be done to redirect the force under its reform.
The country’s top cop made this statement while addressing senior officers of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary in Kimbe, West New Britain for the week-long Commissioners Conference.
Reforming discipline was top on the agenda. It would be a critical measure to regain the public’s trust on the constabulary, and for personnels to set some form of integrity.
He said there were many underlying issues in the administration of disciplinary issues. The Discipline Symposium is intended to identify these issues, and rejuvenate order for the betterment of the constabulary.
The use of firearms was also another concern, which has led to a number of alleged killings by police in the past years.
