Autonomous Region of Bougainville Sees More Independent Candidates this Election

At the close of nominations in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, more independent candidates have been accepted and declared to contest in this year’s National Election.

Acting Election Manager, Desmond Timiyaso, says that 34 independent candidates have been nominated.

“For the Bougainville Regional, we have three, North Bougainville 17, Central Bougainville 12 and South Bougainville 2,” states Timiyaso.

Among them are only three women candidates contesting as Independents.

Meanwhile, the political party with the second highest is SOM Pioneer Party with 9 candidates, followed by National Alliance, People’s Progress Party and Social Democratic with four each.

The remaining parties have lower than four candidates, from the 13 political parties including independent candidates.
