Australian NGO donates wheelchairs to local workshop

A workshop tucked away behind Lae’s Angau hospital has becomethe focus of a program to improver mobility for people living with disabilities.

Through an Australian organization, people with special needs are being given new wheelchairs and technicians are being taught how to assemblethem.

NOPS workshop provides vital service for people living with disabilities.

A new set of wheelchairs were being tested yesterday. About two hundred devices have arrived from Australia. The wheelchairs have been suppllied withthe help of an Australian NGO “Motivation Australia”.

The NOPS workshop makes wheelchairs but gets little support fromthe government. Those who are assisted bythe workshop face many challenges on a daily basis. They argue thatthere has to be more recognition from government authorities.
