Bougainville’s Direct Health Facility Funding Scheme a Success

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Autonomous Region of Bougainville’s Direct Health Facility Funding Scheme is now showing credible evidence that it is a success.

According to National Health Department Official Navy Mulou, while this is still a pilot project, an independent assessment has shown that when funds are directly given to health facilities, it makes a big difference.

Mulou announced this at the recent National Economical Fiscal Commission Regional Workshop in Lae, when presenting about the health delivery sector program.

In making reference to the National Health Department’s 100% kit system, Molou said it would be phased out this year due to a number of short falls.

“The project, when trialed in Bougainville, worked and results have indicated that when funds are made directly to the provinces and district, there is evidence of success,” he said.
