Another Road Accident at Sir Manasupe Haus Traffic Light

By Elizah Palme- EMTV Online News, Port Moresby

A loaded PMV bus travelling from Gordons to Waigani this afternoon (February 22, 2018) collided with a Toyota Camry at the junction near Sir Manasupe Haus injuring passengers on board.

The PMV Bus 7, with vehicle registration plate P-5180, was on its normal routine when it collided with the Toyota Camry that was about to cross the junction.

The nearly tragic accident is the third to occur at this location just this month (February). This afternoon’s accident saw no death but left many passengers on both cars injured.

Injured passengers on PMV Bus told EMTV Online, the Toyota Camry was at fault, but its driver, Mr Peter Lus denied saying;

“I was at the back of another car; and proceeded to cross the road after it, but I was taken by surprise when the bus suddenly hit me.”

The driver of the PMV Bus said he drove straight because he saw green light denoting his direction.

An eyewitness Lina Rham who vends near the traffic light also confirms this saying the PMV Bus was right by driving through.

“The taxi was wrong by driving through when it was red light.” Lina said.

Danny, who was travelling home on the PMV bus from Gordons said the PMV bus was on full speed and followed the other cars who went ahead of it because the green light was still on their side.

Few young men who were on the PMV bus further said that since Police were on the scene of the accident, they prevented further trouble from happening.

Both drivers will be questioned by Police at the Police Station this afternoon.

Road accidents are frequent at the junctions at this time of the year when Port Moresby is busy preparing for APEC Forum.
