By Jack Lapauve Jnr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The South Anglimp District, in the Jiwaka Province, is focused on developing Small Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in the district and support locals to conduct businesses to sustain their livelihoods.

To support it’s efforts, the Joint District Planning and Budget Committee had made the decision to acquire a loan through the National Development Bank under its credit scheme facility.

The National Development Bank has deposited a sum of K1 million as security, using the District Support Improvement Program funds where the first batch of 873 recipients, received K1000 each.

According to NDB’s Credit Scheme Manager, Daniel Wohwiembe, the scheme is based at council wards and village to develop a saving culture. Mr Wohwiembe said the seed amount must be utilized meaningfully.

“It’s a good initiative to allow people to make choices to build and develop a business mind set”, he added.

Local MP, Joe Koim told his people that the scheme is to engage people in SME and utilized properly by the people, the better the chances of increasing security deposits.
