Papua New Guinea’s national flag carrier, Air Niugini has named one of its Q400 aircraft PXT, ‘Kieta’.
The Q400 PXT aircraft was given the naming rights, for its maiden flight to Aropa on Friday December 12, 2014, that took Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill and the delegation for the reopening ceremony of the Aropa Airport in Arawa, Autonmous Region of Bougainville.
Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill said the aircraft is named Kieta, as the main township of AROB, before the Bougainville crisis, and still is today.
State and Investments Minister, Ben Micah was proud to witness the reopening and commencement of air services to Aropa, as it will enable people to access much needed services, especially for the people of Central and South Bougainville.
The Minister responsible also announced negotiations are well underway to link Aropa with international communities, beginning with the Solomon Islands.
Aropa will also be linked to Cairns, Australia connecting through Port Moresby; with plans for direct international flights.
