AFL: Search is on For 2014 Elite Squads

The search is on for 2014 elite squads and teams for Under 14 and under 16 Coca- Cola Benatangs andthe Under 17 Kurakums girls’ team.

AFLPNG is also offeringthese youngsters a chance to buildtheir skills in this code by attendingthe Coca- Cola Academy andthe Australian-based scholarships.

 

AFPNG went out to regions, conducting trials and looking at potential talent to make a mark inthe national teams.  

 

The recent Highlands and Momase based national selection trials were held in Lae and included teams from Goroka, Mt Hagen and Lae who participated inthe two day trials.

 

The Lae-based squads won all four divisions played which obviously reflectedthe strength of code inthe province.

 

AFLPNG General Manager Murray Berd commendedthe boys and girls taking part inthe trials. He praisedthe Goroka squads who werethe first timer inthe trials.

 

They weren’t able to win any ofthe matches played; however, received overwhelming backings to seethem participated intheir own right. 

 

ther centers also took part inthe trials.

 

Southern Regional trials held at Taurama Barracks saw 350 boys and girls battle it out on field while 250 players are expected to testthemselves in a similar format in Bealla, West New Beitain province. 

 

The preliminary Squads will be announced in two weeks’ time.
