A Time for Peace – Missing Man’s Family Compensated

By Vasinatta Yama, EM TV News – Mt Hagen

Christmas as believed by many Christians is a time for forgiveness and happiness.

In Jiwaka Province, a man whose body was missing in a car accident from a flooding river in Enga Province was compensated yesterday (23 December, 2018).

The compensation was a way of peace to the family of the missing man.

Owner of Kende vegetables, a company which supplies fresh vegetables to parts of Highlands, Jack Amu, gave a total of K58, 000 and 51 pigs to the family of his driver, who was involved in an accident last year.

It was alleged that after transporting vegetables up to the Barrick-owned Porgera Mine in Enga Province, his driver and a crew were traveling back to Mt Hagen when they met their fate.

The crewman survived injuries to his head, while the month old 10 tons SRR truck was washed away by the fast flowing Lai river at Wapenamanda Electorate.

The body of the driver has never been found, something that has never happened in the history of the Lai River.

However, Mr Amu who comes from Laiagam, a tribal zone area, says compensation is a way forward for peace to prevail.

Meanwhile, families of the missing driver accepted the compensation, saying there are no grudges against Kende Vegetables.
