Increase Tertiary Institutions, says Education Program Advisor for Morobe

Education Program Advisor for Morobe, Keith Jiram, said the National government should establish more tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea to cater for the increasing Grade 12 students.

The country is producing more Grade 12 students, compared to a limited number of spaces available at the tertiary education level.

More than 1,800 Grade 12 students in Morobe Province sat for their final examinations last year, and only 444 were selected into tertiary institutions.

Jiram says the provincial education division has the capacity to cater for grade 9 and 11 selections in the province by establishing new schools.

He says the National Government should carefully review its policies and start establishing more tertiary institutions in order to cater for the large number of Grade 12 graduates.
