The U18 National Basketball Championship officially began today at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, here in the Nation’s Capital.
The four – day tournament will end on Saturday, when a squad will be named as well to take in the U18 Oceania Championship.
For the first time, Basketball PNG is hosting the U18 National Championship.
A total of 18 teams participating, 11 men’s and 7 women’s.
The teams come from, Central, Kupiano, Daru, POM Men’s and women’s, Kerema, and Simbu, Mt Hagen and host NCDBA.
Not all provinces turned up for the tournament.
The teams present, are expected to play high standard basketball.
Today, the championship started off with round – robin matches, the mens are playing in pool A and B while the women’s 1 pool.
With the U18 Oceania Championship coming up in December, in Fiji, BPNG is making selections from this championship.
