Investigation Files Presented

Police have completed investigation files into the death of Nelson Rama, who was allegedly shot by Port Moresby police, last November.

Case officers leading the investigations presented the completed files to National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent, Ben Turi, this afternoon.

The presentation was witnessed by relatives of the late Nelson.

The completed files took case officers over ten months to complete.

This incident is in relation to the police shoot out at Morata, which resulted in the death of Nelson Rama and the injuring a passenger, who is a member of the Defence Force, based at Taurama Army Barracks.

According to confirmed police reports, the deceased drove a vehicle identified on police radio on the night of November 26, 2015, as a stolen vehicle.

There was a car chase which lasted for 20 minutes from Waigani to Tokarara, and later into Morata.

Gunshots were fired by police officers, which killed the driver and injured the front seat passenger.

The next morning, there was a confrontation between members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and PNG Defence Force.

The confrontation resulted in the damage of four police vehicles and the injuring of two police men.

The files will be presented to the Criminal Investigation Division for further investigation before any arrests can be made.

However, at least four different police units are understood to have been involved in the alleged shoot out.
