National Volleyball Championships Kick Off

The National Volleyball Championships began today at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre, Port Moresby.

A total of 24 mens and 18 womens teams from various associations across Papua New Guinea have come to take part in this week – long tournament.

PNG Volleyball Federation General Secretary, Kila Oli, said, selections for a junior elite Squad will be made during this championship for the Junior Olympics coming next year.

Kickstarting the championship were the U21in the mens and women’s divisions, who will head into their elimination rounds tomorrow.

The finals will be played on Wednesday.

Associations across the country, including, Morobe, Milne Bay and Gulf have come to take part in this week – long tournament.

Exceptions were made for teams Miline Bay and Morobe who are arriving tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there will be official formalities on Wednesday, when all teams will be present, which will also coincide with the award presentations for the U21 Division, and the other divisions will kick off their matches on Thursday.

Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, and NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, are expected to give their address during the formalities.
