Volleyball Referees Undergoing Selections

The Volleyball referees who were awarded badges by the National Volleyball Referees Commission earlier this year are also undergoing selections which are carried out by the commission as they ref at the Championships.

National Volleyball Referees Commission Chairman, Joey Sena, says the selected lot will go on to ref matches during the PNG Games.

Recently, a refresher course was organised for the badged referees and the participants were initially expected to be around 35.

He said, the course ended up catering for 80 participants, most of whom were aspiring referees.

Meanwhile, with the deferral of the PNG Games, the referees Commission can now be able to increase the number of certified referees they have as there is a refresher course set for February 2017. It is expected that during this time, all commissioned referees may go for training before refereeing in the PNG Games the following month.

Sena added, after the Pacific Games, the commission has set its aim to bring the National Referees to international standards so they are able to ref outside of the country as well.

He added, these referees are from as far as Bougainville and all over the country, and he believes the commission will be able to produce a good number for the PNG Games, come March, as well as other bigger competitions.
