Coffee Industry Corporation Calls on Government to Assist Office Upgrade

The Export Control Office of the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) in Lae is calling on the national government to help upgrade their building.

Since its establishment in 1989, the CIC building has not been given any major upgrade.

The management has constructed a three-storey building plan, but needs funding to implement this.

This Quality Control Building of the Coffee Industry Corporation in Lae came into operation in 1989.

The office serves as the Operation Division for Morobe.

The coffee industry in PNG has been consistent in exporting one million bags of coffee every year.

The office’s main role is to protect the consistency with exports and to keep its buyers happy.

The industry last year made a shipment of more than 700,000 bags of coffee to importers overseas, with total revenue of K400 million for the country, and a total export levy of more than K4 million.

PNG is currently exporting to over 33 countries. Its major buyers are countries in Europe, with Germany as the biggest coffee buyer.

Others include America, Australia and Japan.
