Catholic Bishops Conference Hails Government

Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Catholic Bishop Conference (CBC) General Secretary, Father Victor Roche, congratulated the government saying that news of the resumption of classes at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) was a relief to many who had lost hope.

When UPNG resumes, a reconciliation ceremony will take place and Fr. Victor says CBC would be more than willing to be a part of the ceremony.

He also wanted to bring light to the issue in Kiunga, where the catholic diocese’s nurses, who provide health services in the rural area, have not been paid in the past three consecutive pay weeks.

Fr. Victor says while they were happy with the news of universities resuming classes, he asked the government to also look into the issue of rural church health workers not getting paid.
