Methodist Church Medics Provide Service to Motu-Koitabuans

Medical practitioners from the Chinese Methodist Church in Australia are providing medical aid to Motu-Koitabuans in the Central Province.

Upon their arrival, they went through a number of villages along the Motuan coast like Gaire, Tubuserea, and Lealea.

EMTV spoke to the medical experts who had visited Porebada village yesterday.

Bishop Reverend Dr James Kwang said this is part of the church ministry to provide medical care to patients, as well as spreading the gospel to people.

The group started three years ago under the banner of the Methodist Medical Mission.

This is their first time in Papua New Guinea after visiting other countries in Southeast Asia like Cambodia, Laos and Nepal.

Team leader, Jason Wong spoke to EMTV about the prospect of their mission and said their aim is to provide free clinical services to under-privileged people who have been in need of basic health services in order to promote healthy living.

Methodist Church Education & Health Secretary, Reverend Morea Tarata, said the health sector needs improvement in service delivery.

He said over 1,000 people in every village do not have access to health services.

Many of these villages are situated along the Motuan coastline where water is a serious predicament.

He added that where government services cannot reach people the church is at the forefront of bringing these services.
