The draw for the New Guinea Islands (NGI) Conference of the Export Rugby Championships has been confirmed following the return of AROB Rugby Football Union’s Black Orchids, and the West New Britain Rebels.
Rabaul will host the first of the NGI conference matches tomorrow at the Kurakakaul Field.
AROB’s Black Orchids will be up against the New Ireland Drongos, while the West New Britain Rebels will have it tough against an in form, and well established, East New Britain Kaias side.
15s rugby isn’t as strong in provinces such as AROB and West New Britain, but what these provincial championships will provide is an avenue for provinces to grow their participation at a competitive level.
In the Southern Conference both Capital Rugby Union teams, the Boromas and Gaigais, will go head-to-head at the Sir John Guise Stadium, while the main match has been set for 3pm between the two developing unions, Daru Stingrays and the Oro Fuzzies.
In the third and final conference, Madang Madgauns will also return to the competition, with their first match against the Kilituas, who had just fallen short of a victory against the Hammerheads at SCRUM Oval on Saturday.
