Bougainville Rugby League Rising

The Bougainville Rugby Football League has been revived and in full swing with its matches.

President, Robert Critchley, says the management is now focused on developing the code in the autonomous region.

There is hope for the Bougainville Rugby Football League.

Under the leadership and management of President Robert Critchley, the code was revitalized.

“Get it up and running, which we have done successfully and having a more transparent, more honest executives, running the competition. Now we are struggling for sponsorship. Although we have received assistance from some business houses, it is the league fans that has kept us running,”

“My plan for this year is to lay the foundation for next year, because we are trying to get their interest of all the players, tell them that rugby league is still alive,” he said.

Critchley said that rugby league will be brought to another level with a brighter future.

“At least to have some sort of future for the players, to play for teams like Gurias, Hunters etc…”

“I have been working closely with the New Guinea Islands Director, based in Buka and has been helping a lot,” he said.

The future of rugby league looks promising with the participation of many young people, according to Operations Manager, George Kelle.

“I totally believe that what we are going through now is a progress that Bougainville rugby league will go a long way,” Kelle said.

Meanwhile matches are held every weekend at the Hutjena Oval in Buka.
