Representatives from PNG Rugby League have made their intentions known to the media to lobby on the government for an expansion of the newly built National Football Stadium to cater for the adequate demand ahead of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Papua New Guinea will host three World Cup matches next year that will send the Rugby League mad nation into a frenzy.
When the draws were released on Tuesday, it revealed that PNG will for the first time in twenty-five years host three games of the World Cup next year against United States and two of the European qualifiers.
It seems that ten thousand seating capacity in the National Football Stadium will not be enough to cater for next year’s games.
Meanwhile it was not clear at the moment which of the two stadiums the games will be played at.
Coach Michael Marum, in an interview says neither of the two stadiums are big enough to house the number of fans who will want to attend next year.
Marum says a lot of people turned up for PNG Hunters games without tickets due to tickets being all sold out, and with the World Cup, 15,000 seats for spectators won’t be enough.
Papua New Guinea’s first game of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup will be against a European qualifier in Port Moresby on Saturday, October 28.
