It’s now day five of disruption and cancellation of Air Niugini flights, and there are yet more frustrated passengers left stranded throughout the country.
One Air Niugini official confirmed today with EMTV News that a number of domestic pilots have been calling in sick since Wednesday of this week, causing staff shortages.
Meanwhile at Jacksons Domestic Airport in Port Moresby today, passengers expressed disappointment at how the airline was handling the issue.
One frustrated passenger, who has been attempting to fly to Buka for the past two days, asked for Air Niugini management to clarify what they mean by the company suffering from “technical crewing issues.”
A tour group from Japan was also stranded in Port Moresby, unable to leave the capital for Rabaul where they were to attend the Warwargira and Mask Festival.
Air Niugini CEO, Simon Foo, in a statement yesterday said “every efforts is focused on providing ongoing air services to our passengers.”
The national government, via the Minister for State Enterprise, have advised that they have been briefed on the current situation.
