Two Teachers From Lae’s Milfordhaven Primary Not Paid

Colleen Barilae – EMTV News, Lae

Two teachers at Lae’s Milfordhaven Primary School have not been paid for the last four months.

Head teacher of the school, Yelo Amu, says Resumption of Duty Summary Sheets have not been approved for the two staff since February this year.

The province’s Education Advisor, Keith Jiram, however confirms all RODSS for Morobe teachers have been approved and sent to TSC for process at the education salary section in Waigani.

The Resumption of Duty Summary Sheet contains teachers’ details and are kept by education department to identify teachers’ duties along with their salaries.

The head teacher, Yelo Amo, says that the two teachers’ forms have not been approved according to the records that are kept with the school; as a result salaries were not paid over 8 fortnights.

Steven Merpe said he was being underpaid as a level 2 staff, as he indicated in his pay slips.

The other two female teachers, Jaymie Terra and Kaiyo Inungke say they haven’t been paid for the last 8 fortnights, and carrying out their duty has been difficult.

Teaching without pay has become a challenge for them as their needs cannot be provided by the school itself.

Meanwhile, Provincial Education Advisor, Keith Jiram, says many teachers have not been given new positions due to a computer system failure within the provincial and education department offices.
