US Embassy Speakers Program

Renowned social entrepreneur Saran Kaba Jones, Founder and CEO of NGO – FACE Africa, was invited to Papua New Guinea as part of the US Embassy’s speakers program.

The program features speakers and consultants from around the world who are invited to travel to other countries to share their skills, knowledge and expertise on specific topics.

Saran chose to present on Social Entrepreneurship and Business.

On the second day of the three-day seminar at the National Library (at the American Corner), Saran covered the basics of entrepreneurship and business, providing tips and tools to empower existing as well as aspiring businessmen and women to be innovative in business ventures.

Her theme being, Innovation for Success: Top tools in Social Entrepreneurship.

She discussed the similarities between the two existing economies of Africa and Papua New Guinea.

The comparisons between the challenges, such as infrastructure development and governments guaranteeing basic social services such as education, access to clean water, and health care.

The similarities are on both a social, as well as a business level, with unemployment also being a common major issue.

From her experience in working in similar economies as Papua New Guinea; Saran gave solid advice for existing and aspiring business owners stating that SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises) are the way to go in emerging economies such as that of PNGs.
