More than 18 primary school teachers in the National Capital District are still waiting for last year’s leave fares.
Two cheques worth more than K100,000, printed by the Finance Department, were refused by a commercial bank.
When enquiring at Vulupindi yesterday, the teachers were told that the cheques will be reprinted, a third time.
Travel agents were engaged to facilitate travel for teachers over the holidays; however, with the school year starting, teachers are now trying to get reimbursements from the travel agents. Wayne Tumange, one of the affected, says his claim to the Education Department has been sitting there for the last three years.
Mr Tumange has been teaching in NCD for the last 20 years and has applied for repatriation leave back to his home province in the Southern Highlands.
The Education Department has been blaming teachers for failing to submit leave claims on time.
