Research work testing the use of artificial cells on a robot has proven effective and has enabled a small-wheeled robot to find its own way around.
The work was aimed at identifying if robots can use artificial cells, to perform complex activities just like the humans.
Conducted tests have shown that these cells can enable the robots to think and do just like the human being.
According to Haizou Li, Professor at the Agency for Sciences, Technology and Research, “artificial grid cells could provide an adaptive and robust mapping and navigation system”.
The research work was led by Professor Li, co-authored with Huajin Tang, a research scientist at Agency for Sciences, Technology and Research, and Yuan Mialong, a graduate student and first author on a paper about this work.
During their testing, researchers also confirmed that the robots artificial place and grid cells have functioned in an equivalent way to their biological counterparts.
While the results have shown there is more to be done to perfect the test, artificial intelligence researchers are increasing research on the brain to refine modern approaches to machine learning.
The research work by the Singapore team is said to be significant as it shows more potential for machines to have the same kind of capability to perform like the humans.
