PNG Youth Want to Lead in Development

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Youths in Commonwealth countries have been called to help contribute to the development of their country.

With that aim, Youth leaders in PNG discussed cross-cutting issues experienced by youths and are forming an open dialogue with organizations and civil societies.

Youth leaders say, youths must be empowered to drive development agendas in Papua New Guinea.

During the meet, youth leaders did presentations and panel discussions to help build greater public awareness in forming better dialogue among stakeholders so youths can be the forefront of development.

National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) Director General, Mr Norit Luiom expressed NYDA’s support of the two days program and emphasised young peoples’ voices that needed to be heard in making a difference for young people in the country.

“Young people have the right to be part of a development of a country,” Mr Luio said.

The challenge now is for the National Youth Development Authority and stakeholders to support and create avenues for marginalized youths to be positive and be the difference in their communities.

Similar consultation workshops will be held in the coming months to emphasize young people’s voice.
