New PNG DataCo Limited to Restructure Telecommunications Network

PNG Dataco Limited is an enterprise newly established by the state.

The core function of PNG Dataco Limited will be to restructure the current state owned telecommunications network.

The board of PNG Dataco Limited was sworn in this afternoon.

State Enterprise Minister, Ben Micah, officiated at the swearing in of the new board members of the SOE.

Headed by Ruben Kautu, the board is now tasked to advice the state as to how best telecommunication assets can be consolidated into this new entity.

Dataco Limited will take ownership of the National Transmission Network, the fiber optic cable project that has been under the stewardship of the IPBC.

Minister Micah is confident with the members of the board, notably the chairman of Telikom and Bemobile boards.

The entity will oversee transformation and modernization of state’s communication infrastructure.

Minister Micah said the desired outcome is to develop and implement a modern broad-band driven telecommunication system.

PNG Dataco is 8 percent owned by the Southern Highlands provincial government and 92 percent by the state.
