New Lutheran Church Opened at Burns Peak Settlement

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua new Guinea has opened a new church at the heart of the Burns Peak Settlement in Port Moresby today.

This Trinity Lutheran Church will accommodate the TOWAMO congregation for the first time after many years of using makeshift tents to conduct the mass.

The TOWAMO congregation of the Lutheran Church living around the Burns Peak Settlement area in Hohola, Port Moresby opened their new church with the delight welcome of traditional singings performances and ribbon cutting ceremony witnessed by the Chief Secretary to the Government Sir Manasupe Zurenoc.

This church was built at a cost of about K43,000, is one of other line churches of the Lutheran Church including Takarara and Morata that constitutes to a total of 33 Lutheran churches in the country.

Trinity Lutheran Church was built from the church congregation’s contributions through their offerings which will accommodate them after years of having their mass service in makeshift tents.

While acknowledging the support and contributions of the congregation which saw the construction of this church, Sir Manasupe said that it is through faith, commitment and support that have resulted in positive outcomes like this.

He said that despite having over a thousand tribes and 850 languages this has church demonstrated their congregation showing faith through their contribution despite seeking direct assistance from the Government.

Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church Barry Sainao said, “this church must be dynamic and mobile to preach the word of God”.
