The public in Madang has shown signs of assisting and cooperating with the Madang Police.
Members of the public around the Modilon Papindo Supermarket alerted police to a possible robbery this morning; resulting in the prevention of what was likely to be another major robbery for the town.
“The CID (Criminal Investigations Division) Officers got a call, they proceeded straight to Papindo, caught the five suspects and brought them back to the police station,” said the Criminal Investigations Officer In Charge, Inspector Steven Yalamu.
Inspector Yalamu said the suspects are known, and have been arrested and charged for previous robberies, including some this year’s string of major robberies throughout Madang town.
“We’ve finally caught up with them, and I would like to thank the public especially for tipping us off with information so the officers acted from the information. That’s the type of cooperation that we want, and would like to ask the public to continue to support and assist the work of the police in the province,” Inspector Yalamu said.
Last week, Madang police caught pirate suspects, and again it was because the public assisted and supplied helpful information. This year has seen Madang in the spotlight because of its crime rate, especially with major robberies happening one after another.
The blame game may be on, but the police clearly need the public’s help, just as much as the public needs police support.
