Another Death At Danwaiya’s 4 Mile Compound

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Another resident of the Danwaiya community of Port Moresby’s 4 Mile compound has died overnight. This follows on from the death of a young child on the weekend after the group were evicted from what they believe to be their land.

Longtime resident and elder, the late James Kamo from Simbu, has passed away to now take the death toll to two.

Community leader Paul Kaupa says the extension of the caveat order still remains for an indefinite period.

“We have the caveat title, I’m not sure what procedures the Asian company used to acquire the land to remove us”, Kaupa said.

It’s a sad sight right in the heart of PNG’s growing city Port Moresby, kids no longer attending school, and employees of both private and public sector found doing nothing but struggling to put their lives together.

Again the leaders are calling for political intervention by NCD Governor Powes Parkop and other MPs to hear of the land tussle they are going through.

Community leaders are also calling on health officials to perform medical check-ups for the displaced group.
