Transparency International (TIPNG) says the behavior of members of the PNG police at Unagi Oval yesterday coud be deemed as a criminal action.
Pictures showed police beating people who attempted to conduct a protest march that was to petition Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, to step down from office.
Anti-corruption group TIPNG has voiced concerns about the police behaviour at Unagi Park in Port Moresby yesterday.
TIPNG said the action of policemen suppressing the freedom of expression and the rights of Papua New Guineans to free access to information is a criminal act.
TIPNG also reminded the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary that there is no law preventing people from observing police officers’ behaviours, or photographing and taking video recordings of their action.
The anti-corruption watchdog said this after seeing images of police attacking people at Unagi Oval yesterday.
