PNG high jumper, Rellie Kaputin, believes the potential for future stars in the sport of athletics here in Papua New Guinea is very high.
The multiple Pacific Games gold medal winning medalist was one of a few big names, including Toea Wisil, assisting as carnival officials at the Southern Region athletics event held over the weekend in Port Moresby.
Currently the national record holder in both the triple and long jump, Kaputin is easily regarded as the best in the region.
After setting new national records in both events, she has decided to devote her time to teaching the new generation of budding athletes.
Seen as a role model to young children, Kaputin spent time in her native Kokopo and said the chance to give something back to the country was an awesome feeling.
She now encourages aspiring young athletes to focus on their respective sporting codes and education. Kaputin believes that parents should be supportive of their young children if they are to pursue sport as their career.
In January, Kaputin will leave for the United States to continue her studies and training, with the Commonwealth Games set firmly in her sights.
