Dabinyaba Hopeful of Rising to the Top

Jeremy Mogi – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

The runner-up for 2014’s Telikom National Soccer League’s Golden Boot award, Nigel Dabinyaba, is still adamant he can improve when the new competition resumes in a few months time.

The 23-year-old says he still has a long way to go, and the opportunity to play professionally is still on the cards. Dabinyaba has been a talismanic figure for his club, the Lae City Dwellers.

He was part of an exciting team that took the competition by storm in 2015, shooting to the top of the table. Alongside fellow strike partner, Raymond Gunemba, the pair were a vital force in the team’s ascension to the top.

Dabinyaba chose not to take part in the Momase leg of the Besta Cup, preferring instead to focus on his own preparation for the upcoming NSL.

While an opportunity to play in New Zealand was also passed, due to travel issues, he remains patient and says that his chance will come.

The new season of the National Soccer League is tentatively scheduled to begin in November.
