PM A:ttends DWU Special Graduation

Down with flu after his visit tothe Gulf province last week, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill felt well enough to dash across to Madang overthe weekend on Sunday.

He wasthe special guest atthe graduation ofthe Divine Word University.

It was a special graduation, inthe fourteen year history ofthe institution.

st graduation of DWU saw a record number of graduates. A total of one thousand seven hundred and forty one, more than half were females.

This graduation was alsothe last for Fr Garrett Roche as Chairman ofthe University Council. He had held that position since DWU’s inception in 1999.

Another founding figure was Fr Jan Czuba,the President. He had helped mold this university to be an institution of Quality, Success and Value. It has trlied to develop this university to answer calls for a better education and how that has come about stands different to ther institutions inthe country.

As well as a helping hand from AustralianInstitutions,the Australian Government has also had a big hand inthe physical development ofthe university.

Deputy Australian High Commissioner tPNG Margaret Adamson toldthe graduating students’that that level of cooperation does not endthere.

Giventhe importance of this day and education as a pillar policy ofthe governmentoPrime Minister Peter O’Neill tired and down from a flu form his recent visit tothe Gulf province made it to Madang.

He arrived inthe middle ofthe proceedings, his presence neverthe less was welcomed.

Mr O’Neill urged graduates to be aspirational and achieving somethingthe churches did. They werethe government,they werethe public service, andthey provided services whenthere wasn’t a Waigani. Even ifthere is a Waigani today ; and it is here that Mr O’Neill wants to partner with Christian churches.
