Former UNITECH Lecturer in Court

A former UNITECH lecturer, charged with misappropriating more than K600, 000 has appeared in a Lae court.

Narayan Gerlot wasthe former head ofthe Electrical Engineering department.

It’s understood Gerlot holds dualIndian and US citizenships.  His passports have not been surrendered to police asthey are being held by a senior university council member.

All this comes as orientation is ending andthe new academic year begins. 

On Tuesday,   senior union members representing academic and non-academic staff,  raised concerns overthe absence ofthe suspended vice chancellor Albert Schram who was not  allowed to enterthe country. 

The foreign affairs officials say Dr. Scram didn’trsquo;t have valid papers when he returned tothe country.   

“We want him to come back so thatthe investigation can ether prover his guilt or innocence,” said a senior university staff member.

Meanwhile,   Schram andthe council members will remain suspended until an investigated announced bythPM :s over. Government will act on those recommendations as soon asthey are made.
