Plans are already in place to changethe name The Small Business Development Corporation.
It will be known asthe Small to Medium Enterprise Corporation. This was announced bythe acting Managing Director of SBeC, Henry Meresembi.
The acting managing director of SBeC, made this known when speaking at a graduating ceremony in Port Moresby yesterday.
Mr. Marasembi wasthe guest speaker atthe graduation of more than 40 females who received certificates in Garment and textile design.

SBeC is aware ofthe problems facingthe textile and design industry and is currently looking at ways of addressingthe challenges.
Later in an interview, Mr. Marasembi saidthe plans to changethe functions and name of SBeC is to encourage greater participation of SBeC inthe government’s policy.
Functioning underthe department of trade, commerce and industry, SBeC at present is a small part ofthe larger SME’sector.
He futher explained thatthe submission once approverd by cabinetowill have SBeC split into two different organisations, SME Corporation and Credit Guarantee Corporation.
The change is likely to happen early next year.
