Hickey Grills NHC Director

It was revealed that close to SIXTY MILLION KINA in rental collected by Finance has not remitted tothe National Housing Corporation.

That came fromthe Public Accounts CommitteeInquiry. PAC Chairman and Begia MP John Hickey called it a national disgrace.

Divine help is what Housing,Lands and Finance would wish for. They came underthe watchful eyes ofthe Public Accounts Committee headed by Begia MP John Hickey.

He wasted no time but grilledthe National Housing Corporation Managing Director John Dege on numerous complaints from home buyers with outstanding land titles.

“What we have now in this country is a pack of land grabbers roaming streets, illegally throwing legitimate tenants and legitimate owners offtheir properties,” said Hickey.

The Committee also heard that underthe different Housing schemes, rentals have been collected bythe Finance Department but have not been remitted to NHC asthe custodians ofthe Properties.

“When I took upthe office, I discovered that NHC has a housing data system that is very reliable and according my records, it’s very clear that we have not defaulted on our part,” said Dege.

Meantime, Deputy Secretary for Finance Jacob Yafai told PACthe Department had a working procedure in place but blamed a new system that was introduced.
