A Youth Development Organization says repentance is all about positive change, and that is whatthey want to instil in today’s youth.
The VoiceIncorporated held its Clean Generation Campaign in Port Moresby whilst also celebrating National Covernant Day
The day was commemorated with high school, secondary school, and university students’cleaning up alongthe Waigani Freeway.
Students geared up as early as 5 am for the Clean Generation Campaign or Clean Actostarting atthe University of Papua New Guinea
Over 500 youths betweenthe ages of 15 to 25 warmed up for the activity.
Executive Director ofthe VoiceInc. Serena Sasingan saidthe campaign has been running for the last two months to encourage positive peer pressure among young people.
“Young people taking a stand against alcohol, drug abuse and violence, and knowing how to take control oftheir lives…we’re promotingthe values of Purpose, Virtue and Honesty,” Ms Sasingan.
The VoiceInc. is a youth development organization that focuses on running educational programs with young people in educational institutions.
This is to create and develop a sense of purpose, virtue and honesty in youths.
Ms Sasingan saidthey chose to have it duringthe National Covernant Daybecause of symbolic meaning oftheir activity.
“It was significant for our nation…it’s a day of prayer where people are coming to repentoand repent is all about change,” she said.
And, asthe young people cleanthe streets, it’s not about cleaning; it’s about saying that ‘I want to stand’. Through cleaningthe streets,they’re symbolically showing thatthey want to clean up some ofthe mass that we find ourselves stuck in.”
Corporate sponsors have come on board to supportthe organisation.
The Voice also plans to takethe activity nationwide by next year.
