Office of Higher Education Director General Professor David Kavanamur said student unrests are symptoms of financial mismanagement.
Professor Kavanamur said OHE has directedthe development of a governance manual based on practical standards adopted bythe bank of Papua New Guinea
Minister Polye’said he will look into improving financial management systems in universities aroundthe country.
Meantime,the minister advised school administrations to allow students’to debate freely and cultivate innovative ideas and researches.
Making reference tothe student unrest atthe University of Goroka, Minister Polye’said a team fromthe office of higher education is currently in discussion withthe university’s council to resolvethe issues.
The re-introduction of a Student Representttative Council intothe school’s constitution is one agenda.
