National Fisheries and UPNG Forge Partnership

A partnership arrangement was reached betweenthe National Fisheries Authority andthe University of Papua New Guineato develop fisheries inthe country.

 

Beth parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Port Moresby yesterday to forge this partnership.

The National Fisheries Authority will be utilizing UPNG’s research facility at Motupore Island to carry outtheir research and develop fisheries.

 

Heads of both institutions completedthe formalities that were withnessed bytheir staff.

 

This initiative will strenthen collaborative efforts in fisheries development.

 

Managing Director ofthe National Fisheries Authority Sylvester Pokajam saysthe MOU will encourage high quality research and support infrastructure development in coastal fisheries.

 

It will also be an opportunity to contribute towards knowledge investment and sustainable capacity building by way of providing facilities for undergraduates and post graduates to undertake appllied research aimed at assisting coastal resource management.

 

Albert Vahau fromthe UPNG’s School of Natural and Physical Sciences says UPNG is ready to work withthe National Fisheries Authority to developthe fisheries sector.
