The sale of land known as Portion 2062 at Konedobu in Port Moresby has been questioned by tenants.
Formerly owned bythethen Department of Civil Aviation, this property was allegedly sold by National Housing Commission.
Portion 2062 is made up of 1 point 5 hectares of land on which sit 6 houses.
Tenants living here are past and present Civil Aviation Authority employees. Some have been living here for more than 30 years.
The houses were built inthe colonial days for the office of Urban Developmentowhich was later changed to department of Civil Aviation.
As years passed and amendments were made, the department was broken down futher to 3 separate entities.
Under a 1986 NEC decision, it was agreed that former CAA properties be managed and sold bythe state.
Whenthe National Housing Corporation Act came into effect in 1990, this was incorporated.
NHC was to act as a custodian ofthese properties and dispose to tenants. However, tenants say NHC has abused its power by selling this property.
Main title of this property is with NHC, andthese people are likely to be evicted if itthere is a new owner.
Documents obtained by EMTV show that Portion 2062 Granville was sold under NHC’s outright cash sales scheme.
The contract for sale statedthe cost to be more than 1.9 million kina whichthe tenants say is far less than its real value.
They said through an independent valuation, the property will fetch 25 million kina.
NHC will provide a response soon.
