People in a rural village in Enga Province have been without proper healthcare facilities for over 30 years.
Patients in Monokam Village have been seeking treatment in a health centre made of bush materials wherethey are often treated out inthe open.
The makeshift health center has been aiding a population of over ten thousand people.
Palus Kindi, one of two health workers atthe modest facillity, says thatthe aid post has been used for many years to treat patients inthe area.
“We have been treating patients onthe bare ground for a long time,” said Kindi.
Like ther parts ofthe country Enga Province has some ofthe highest rates of infant and maternal mortality.
A company called Mapai Transportoowned by a local business man Jacob Luke, has sought help from donors to help with a new health center. He started work by clearingthe site for the new health center.
Supplies are left inthe open and people don’t have a proper health facility, but that is expected to change inthe next few months.
A new Health Centre is to be built by funding fromthe Asian Development Bank.
