Taekwondo: 18 Gold Medals in 2015 Games

Eighteen Gold Medals will be up for grabs in Taekwondo inthe 2015 Pacific Games.

Founding member ofthPNG Taekwondo Academy anPNG Olympic president Sir John Dawanincura said this when withnessingthe presentation of Taekwondo skills by students’of Carit’s Technical Secondary School in Port Moresby.    

 

The team comprising 5 Masters – 4 from Korea and one from Germany, were at Carit’s Technical Secondary School for two months. 

 

The team was instrumental tothPNG Taekwondo Academy, and yesterday wasthe presentation of what has been taught. 

 

Taekwondo is a Korean Martial artohowever now it is recognized as an Olympic sport. Tae means ‘to strike with foot; Kwon means ‘to strike with fist”; and Do means ‘path’ – TAEKWONDO.

 

Simple rules were taught – Pulling, pushing, kicking, punchingthe facial area, running and going out fromthe fighting arena are marked down. 

 

Sir John Dawanicura gave an assurance to includethe academy in any national championships as part of preparation for the 2015 Pacific Games.  

 

Master An Beung Ho is well known inthe sport. He joined Taekwondo atthe age of 7 and is not new tPNG. He was part oftheWorld Taekwondo Peace Corps tPNG in 2011.

 

Beung Ho spearheaded four masters in teaching Taekwondo tothe school; all were part ofthe Taekwondo Federation in Korea.

 

The masters were given special recognition bythe school.

 

Prime Minister’s wife Linda Bebao, Korean EmbassyPNG Olympic Committee, Sport Foundation and Sport Ministry were present atthe event.
