National Highway blocked for Third Day

The Okuk Highway is closed for the third day as hundreds of people and vehicles are left stranded.

The National Highway to Hela Province has been blocked off since Wednesday night due to constant heavy rain.

Three separate landslides also happened affecting the people of Hela and Nipa Kutubu electorate stopping access to major oil and gas field like Hides, Moran and Kutubu.

The Nembi Bridge was also washed away making it to sink to the bank of the river.

Nipa Basin deputy President Naiskang Kapu is calling on all relevant authorities to help clear debris and fix the road as people are severely affected.

Can the government fix this road please? Mr Kapu added.

Many people and councilors are more concerned for their road raising questions over the delay by authorities in fixing the road.

Nipa Basin deputy President Naiskang Kapu said at a gathering that we need to fix major Highway seal and maintain. Many councilors and youth leaders are now gathering youths and villages to help clear the blockage while waiting for the government’s attention.
