Naru Remains Governor

The National Court in Lae has found that withnesses for the election petition against Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, llied intheir affidavits and swithched allegiances when it was convenient.

Among evidences presented,they said people were paid bribes atthe Aseki guest house but evidence showed thatthe guest house had been out of business and thatthere were no bookings onthe dates mentioned.

A large number of Wenge and Naru supporters packedthe pavement afterthe court room was filled to capacity. The gates were locked, additional security brought in asthe decision was ended down.

Justice Kiriwom ended downthe summarized forty two page decision that declared that based on evidence Kelly Naru remains as Morobe Governor.

The petitioner Lther Wenge has acceptedthe court’s decision but he doesn’t plan to letthe matter rest. He was critical of Naru’s lLeadersip so far and of Naru’s practices of handing out cash at public gtherings.

Wenge has also raised allegations of mismanagement and corruption inthe Morobe Provincial Government and saysthe Ombudsman Commission andthe fraud squad will be called in to investigate.

Wenge says he will takethe matter tothe Supreme Court.
