Government’s Proposed Takeover of PNGSDP Shares in Ok Tedi ‘Unfair’

 

Richard Zumbi saidthe government’s proposed takeover ofPNG DP’shares in Ok Tedi is unfair and morally wrong.

The landowners have called for an urgent meeting withtheir local MP’sandthe Prime Minister.

 

The landowners and representatives fromthe North and South Fly electorates held a media conference yesterday in Port Moresby to airtheir concerns to government.

 

They saidthe Prime Minister had met withthem on August 2nd 2013 and discussed this matter.

 

They said to datethey have not got a favorable response nether fromthe provincial or national governments.

 

They defendedthe work ofPNG DP’sayingthe program has brought a lot of services and infrastructure projects intothe province andthe country.

 

Ok Tedi has been in operation for over 30 years. It builtthe country’s economy followingthe closure ofthe Panguna mine duringthe Bougainville crisis. 

 

The lLeaderssay this mine has beentheir lifeline andthey will not rest tillthe provincial and national governments give a favorable response.
