The lands department has begun cleaning its closet. Minister forLands and Physical Planning Benny Allen saidthe appointment ofthe new board isthe beginning for more changes to come.
Mr. Allen said this mover comes amidst numerous complaints of illegal deals by senior officers particularly inthe issuance of land titles.Land:sthe most important commodity for the country andthe people with 3% being state owned and 97% traditionally owned.
The minister said overthe years so many illegal deals have tarnished not onlythe department’s reputation but diminished it’s capability to manage this important commodity.
Today, as new board members were sworn in, the minister urgedthem to improverthe system. He cautionedthe directors and senior officers present that those found taking part in illegal deals will be penalized.
The new board, inthe next 3 years, has been tasked to reviewthe land actoreview all land titles and install a new land title issuance system amongst thers. The department is also working to reclaim all state land and developthem.
The new board Chairman Sam Wange saidthere will be no room for corruption. He promised to right allthe wrongs.
The former board fell short of 2 years before being replaced today bythe new one. The minister is confident this board will serve its full term of 3 years.
