St Michael’s Primary Resumes Classes After One-week Suspension

Students atthe St Michael’s Primary School in NCD resumed classesesterday after a one-week suspension.

 

Head Mistress Maryanne Apini said parents agreed to guaranteethe safety of teachers, as well school property.

“Most kids are in school. I’ve advised teachers to give kids extra time in lessons to make up for the suspension,” she said.
 

Mrs Apini was especially pleased that classesor Grade 8 students’have resumed asthey prepare for their final examinations in Novermber.

 

The school was closed last week Monday after Mrs Apini was assaulted by intoxicated members ofthe surrounding community who trespassed onthe school premises.

 

A meeting withthe education department last Wednesday called for parents to ensurethe safety of teachers and school property.

 

The school has also begun to counterthe continuous vandalism and abuse ofthe classrooms by outsiders.

 

“We have a fence that is being built aroundthe upper primary section ofthe school. We will also re-paint out classrooms oncethe fence is erected,” Mrs Apini said.
 

Mrs Apini said withthe introduction ofthe free-education policy, student numbers have increased. She said it would be better ifthe infrastructure and teaching staff is also increased.

 

Meanwhile, she saidthe one week suspension has openedthe eyes ofthe community andthey must take ownership ofthe school property. She emphasized thatthe school needsthe support of parents regardless.
